Libraries on Copac
Introduction to the libraries
Copac is formed by merging the
online library catalogues of major UK research libraries:
- members of the Research Libraries UK (RLUK), including the
British Library, the National Library of Scotland, and the
National Library of Wales / Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru.
- Specialist research libraries, such as the National Art Library at
the V&A.
- Museum libraries, such as the library of the Natural History Museum.
- Specialist databases, such as the Register of Preservation Surrogates.
- Nationally important research collections held in academic
libraries, such as the Russian and East European Studies collection
at the University of Essex.
More library catalogues are being loaded in the future.
The presence of all the UK copyright libraries ensures broad coverage of
UK materials, whilst the range and depth of the many research
libraries and specialist collections makes Copac an ideal resource for tracking down hard to
find documents or exploring materials on a particular subject.
Most libraries still have materials that are not recorded in
their online catalogue, and are therefore not recorded on Copac. The
situation is changing all the time a libraries carry out
conversion of older catalogues. For full information on the
collection coverage of any library's catalogue you need to check the
library's own web site.
