- Search for a title or series title, keyword or full title, eg:
Title: The social behaviour of birds
or
Title: social birds
- For a phrase use quote marks e.g. "data modelling". This can make your results more precise, but may exclude relevant material.
Other features
- If you search for a Title only (no author etc), Copac
tries to find an exact match on the phrase you type in, as well as
looking for the words in any order in a title or series
title. The search also checks for both singular and plural forms
of English search words.
- To find variant word endings cut the end
off the search word and replace it with an asterisk *. Copac
will look for all word endings after the asterisk
*. Eg. Behavio* will find both 'behaviour' and 'behavior'.
- The results of a Title only (no author etc)
search are ranked, with those records that are the best match
to your query being presented first.
-
To change the display order use the 'Sort by' option towards the top
of the Brief Display. Choose the sort order you want,
then select the 'Sort' button. If you find over 750 records they are not
automatically sorted. You can use the 'Sort by' option to
sort up to 2,500 records, though it may be slow.
- You can search using non-roman scripts such as Chinese or
Arabic, though this is likely to find only newer documents.
- It is usual for non-roman script text to be transliterated, but
spellings can vary between records. Try searches for possible spelling
variants eg: Tchaikovsky vs Chaikovskii.
