About the library

Copac gives access to the records contained in the OLIS catalogue. This is a union catalogue of the holdings of nearly one hundred Oxford University Libraries, including the Bodleian Library. It includes pre-1920 works catalogued since 1989, plus c. 20% of the holdings recorded in the Pre-1920 catalogue, including all the dependent library material.

Copac also includes the Bodleian Pre-1920 Catalogue. This describes books and periodicals published before 1920 and catalogued before 1989 which are held in the Bodleian Library and its dependent libraries (the Radcliffe Science Library, Rhodes House Library, the Bodleian Law Library, and the Indian Institute Library). It does not contain records for all the Bodleian's pre-1920 titles.

Coverage: The Oxford web site gives a list of libraries contributing to the Oxford union catalogue, with a link to details of each contributing library. Like most catalogues Oxford does not have comprehensive coverage of the holdings of the all the contributing libraries. Details of catalogue completeness are given in the entry for each contributing library.

The local library catalogue is available online.

Accessing materials

Can I see live document availability on Copac? Yes. The Copac local holdings display will tell you if a document is currently on-loan, reference only etc. as well giving you local location details.

Can I obtain items via Inter Library Loan? Yes, subject to the library's local lending policy. You have to request an inter-library loan via a library of which you are a member. Talk to your own library staff about whether they think the document you need is likely to be available for loan and for advice on making an inter-library loan request.

Can I visit the library to view materials? Yes - visit the library's web site for access details. If you wish to visit it is advisable to contact the library in advance to ensure the material you need will be available.

How do I find primary source material held at this institution? Visit the list of contributors at the Archives Hub for the list of Oxford University contributors.
